The non-custodial parent has remarried. How does that affect my child support?
Even though the non-custodial parent has a second family, this does not eliminate their responsibility to the first family. In some states, the judge may grant the non-custodial parent a decrease in the obligation based on guidelines for child support. If this happens, you should be notified beforehand and given an opportunity to contest the proposed change in child support.

Other factors, which could lower the support order, include:
  • Steady employment of the child
  • Poor health or decreased earning ability of the non-custodial parent
