My child is over 18. When do my child support payments stop?
Biological and adoptive parents must support a child until:
  • The child reaches the age of majority -- or longer if the child has special needs or is currently enrolled in high school
  • The child is on active military duty.
  • The child marries.
  • The child dies.
  • The parents' rights and responsibilities are terminated. For example, when a child is adopted.
  • A court has declared the child emancipated. That is, when a minor has demonstrated freedom from parental control or support and the ability to be self-supporting.
